Sagarmatha Sambaad to proceed as planned

KATHMANDU: The government has confirmed that the much-anticipated Sagarmatha Sambaad (Dialogue) will be held on schedule from May 16 to 18 (Jestha 2 to 4), despite concerns over escalating tensions between neighboring countries India and Pakistan.
Maheshwar Dhakal, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Forests and Environment and Member-Secretary of the High-Level Secretariat Committee for the Sagarmatha Dialogue, stated that the current geopolitical situation will not impact the event.
“There has been no indication from any confirmed foreign delegates about concerns over security, nor has anyone expressed an intention to postpone their visit,” Dhakal said.
He also clarified that although a meeting of the Dialogue Secretariat was recently held, there was no discussion on altering the schedule due to the emerging situation in the region. “The meeting was purely focused on reviewing the progress of preparations,” he added.
The Sagarmatha Dialogue, which had been postponed due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, is set to resume this year and will serve as a significant platform to discuss the global and regional impacts of climate change.
