IPL set to resume in one week
The decision was officially announced by the IPL governing body through a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) late Thursday evening.

KATHMANDU: The Indian Premier League (IPL), which was postponed due to rising tensions between India and Pakistan, will be held after a week.
The decision was officially announced by the IPL governing body through a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) late Thursday evening.
The post read:
“IPL 2025 has been temporarily suspended for one week with immediate effect.”
Match Cancelled Midway Due to Security Threat
The suspension comes in the wake of heightened security concerns across northern India.
On Thursday, a high-alert was issued in Jammu and Pathankot after reports of potential threats.
As a direct consequence, the IPL match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, which was being played at the scenic HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala, was abruptly called off mid-game.
Security officials evacuated the stadium as a precautionary measure, and fans were instructed to leave the premises in an orderly manner. No incidents were reported during the evacuation.
Pakistan Shifts Remaining PSL Matches to UAE
In a related development, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that the remaining eight matches of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) will now be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The matches were originally scheduled to take place in Rawalpindi, Multan, and Lahore. PCB cited “unforeseen regional security concerns” as the reason for the relocation.
Rising Tensions Affecting Regional Sports
Tensions between India and Pakistan have been escalating over the past few weeks, leading to increased military presence along the border and heightened security alerts in several cities. The impact of the geopolitical situation is now visibly affecting the region’s major sporting events.
While IPL officials have stated that the suspension is temporary and only for a week, there is growing uncertainty about whether matches will resume as planned or if further delays may follow.
What’s Next?
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to review the situation in coordination with national security agencies before deciding on the revised IPL schedule. Fans and franchises alike are awaiting official updates.
For now, players have been advised to remain in their respective team bio-bubbles, and no practice sessions are scheduled until further notice.
