KATHMANDU: Gandaki Province Chief Dilliraj Bhatta emphasized the indispensable role of an independent judiciary in ensuring the rule of law, sustainable development, peace, and prosperity.

Speaking at a special event organized by the High Court Pokhara on the occasion of Law Day 2082, Bhatta underscored the importance of upholding the independence and professionalism of the judiciary.

“Law is not merely a collection of rules; it is the backbone of social justice, human rights, and accountable governance,” he said. “The legal system is a critical medium to foster a just, inclusive, and responsible relationship between the state and its citizens.”

Highlighting the significance of Law Day, Bhatta noted that it serves as a reminder of Nepal’s judicial heritage and the shared responsibility to uphold the rule of law.

He stated that the day reinforces the message that the law should matter to every citizen and must serve all equally.

He further pointed out that Gandaki Province has been actively implementing constitutional mandates, with provincial legal structures playing a crucial role in bringing justice services closer to the people.

Expressing his wishes for greater legal awareness, respect for human rights, and the strengthening of social justice, Chief Bhatt called for stronger public trust in the justice system.

He urged stakeholders to make legal education more practical and ensure impartial legal services for all.

Law Day in Nepal is observed every year on Baisakh 26 in commemoration of the enforcement of the Prime Court Act 2008 BS, which came into effect on this day in 2009 BS.

The day marks a key milestone in Nepal’s judicial history.
