NEW YORK: Three UNRWA schools in occupied East Jerusalem have been stormed by heavily armed Israeli forces, forcing over 550 students to leave classrooms, the UN agency’s Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini said.

Lazzarini posted on X the incursion was “an assault on children and education” and a “blatant disregard for international law”.

“As a result, UNRWA was forced to evacuate all children across the six schools it runs in East Jerusalem,” he added.

“Now, nearly 800 girls and boys – some as young as 6 years old – are left in shock and trauma,” Lazzarani added.
