KATHMANDU: Amid escalating tensions with Pakistan following India’s military operation codenamed “Operation Sindoor”, the Indian government has placed multiple states under high alert and ramped up national security measures.

According to Indian media, heightened vigilance has been declared in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, West Bengal, and Bihar.

In these states, government health workers and staff have had their leaves cancelled, and all educational institutions have been temporarily closed.

In Punjab, six border districts—Firozpur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, and Tarn Taran—have ordered a three-day closure of all schools and colleges as a precautionary measure.

27 Airports Shut Nationwide

In an unprecedented move, the Indian government has shut down 27 airports across the country to prevent any potential threat and ensure the safety of civil aviation during this sensitive period.

Taj Mahal Under Tight Security

The world-renowned Taj Mahal in Agra has also come under intense security watch. In the wake of Operation Sindoor and fears of retaliatory actions, extensive screening and surveillance have been initiated in and around the monument.

Authorities have deployed 9 security checkpoints, 8 bulletproof units, and 6 watchtowers to secure the area.

Field units are on constant patrol, and visitor movements are being closely monitored.

Entry into the monument is now subject to strict checking, and tourist hotels nearby are undergoing security audits.

Syed Arib Ahmad, ACP of Taj Security, stated: “We have strengthened the security of the Taj Mahal with multiple layers of surveillance and deployment. All visitors are being questioned and their details recorded.”

Security personnel, including tourism police and local law enforcement from Tajganj station, are conducting regular checks at hotels and collecting records of guests to ensure no suspicious activity goes unnoticed.

The Indian government has appealed to the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activity immediately.
