KATHMANDU: Matatirtha Ayurveda and Alternative Medicine Hospital, located in Chandragiri Municipality–8, has officially launched free surgical services, becoming the first local-level Ayurveda hospital in Nepal to do so.

Operated under the leadership of Chandragiri Municipality, the hospital aims to enhance the quality of its Panchakarma and Ksharasutra treatments through the introduction of surgical facilities.

The hospital has constructed a dedicated surgical unit and post-operative care ward with an investment of approximately Rs 1 million, sourced from the municipality’s internal funds.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Mayor Ghanshyam Giri emphasized the municipality’s commitment to promoting both allopathic and Ayurvedic medical systems in tandem. “Our goal is to build a healthy city with healthy citizens,” he stated, highlighting the priority given to expanding quality healthcare services.

Ward Chair of Chandragiri–8, Pralhad Rijal, announced future plans to further expand the hospital’s services.

The event was also attended by municipal spokesperson Krishna Prasad Khadgi, Social Development Committee Coordinator and Ward Chair of Chandragiri–15 Ghanshyam Luintel, and Ward Chair of Chandragiri–13 Shreekrishna Khatri, among others.

Chief Administrative Officer Surendra Thapa Magar reaffirmed the municipality’s commitment to systematically expanding the hospital’s reach and services.

Hospital Director Dr. Narayan Acharya shared that the new surgical unit opens the door for advanced specialist care. “Initially, we have scheduled surgeries once a week, particularly for conditions like piles, fistula, and fissures under the Panchakarma system. Based on demand, we plan to increase surgical frequency,” he said.

In addition to surgeries, the hospital offers daily outpatient (OPD) consultations and weekly specialist services. Panchakarma therapies such as Vamana, Virechana, Basti, Nasya, and Raktamokshana are also available. The hospital features its own medicinal herb garden to support treatment protocols.

Dr. Acharya further outlined various ongoing community health initiatives, including menstrual hygiene awareness, handwashing campaigns, first aid orientations, distribution of hygiene kits, reusable sanitary pad-making workshops, and mobile health camps with general and Ayurvedic services.

The hospital management has pledged to continue working in a systematic and strategic manner to ensure the delivery of even more effective and high-quality healthcare services in the future.
