MPs press govt on development, drought, and security issues

KATHMANDU: During the Zero Hour of today’s session of the House of Representatives, several lawmakers raised concerns and demands related to regional development, public infrastructure, agriculture, and national security.

MP Bhagawati Chaudhary urged the government to allocate sufficient budget for promoting tourism in Gadhi Rural Municipality of Sunsari, highlighting its significant tourism potential.

MP Bhanu Bhakta Joshi called for the immediate passage of the bill concerning the Dasharathchand University of Health Sciences, stating that all necessary infrastructure for the institution is already in place.

MP Bhim Prasad Acharya stressed the need for increased government initiative in the excavation and reconstruction efforts at the historical site of Tilaurakot.

MP Manish Jha drew attention to delays in the construction of the proposed international stadium in Janakpur and urged the government to expedite the project.

Highlighting severe drought conditions, MP Mahendra Kumar Raya appealed for a dedicated irrigation budget for Manara Shiswa Municipality and Samsi Rural Municipality in Mahottari district.

Similarly, MP Mahesh Kumar Bartaula proposed the possibility of implementing ‘Podway’ smart public transport systems in Nepal, suggesting the use of the defunct Hetauda-Kathmandu ropeway infrastructure as a starting point.

MP Mahesh Basnet raised concerns over high electricity tariffs for lift-based drinking water systems in drought-hit hilly regions and called for reduced tariffs to ensure access to water.

MP Madhav Sapkota demanded immediate provision of fertilizers for farmers preparing for rice cultivation and highlighted that the Dairy Development Corporation (DDC) has failed to pay farmers for six months, calling for urgent payment.

MPs Meena Tamang and Mukta Kumari Yadav warned of the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan and its potential impact on Nepal. They called for unity among all political parties to safeguard the lives and property of Nepali citizens.

MP Menaka Kumari Pokharel voiced alarm over the increasing involvement of youth in drug trafficking and requested proactive intervention. Meanwhile, MP Ranjukumari Jha called for an increase in child nutrition allowances in the upcoming national budget.

Other MPs including Ranu Kumari Balampaki Magar, Ranendra Barali, Yogendra Mandal, Rajendra Kumar Rai, Man Bahadur Gurung, and Rama Koirala Paudel also raised various pressing issues and drew the Parliament’s attention to regional and national concerns.
