KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress lawmaker Arjun Narsingh KC has strongly criticized the government for failing to address the pressing concerns of Generation Z, accusing it of lacking clear commitment and concrete plans to secure the future of the country’s youth.

Speaking during Thursday’s session of the House of Representatives on the government’s policies and programs for the upcoming fiscal year, KC highlighted the dire state of Nepal’s younger generation—particularly those born between 1997 and 2012, now aged 13 to 28.

“Every day, 3,000 to 5,000 young people are leaving the country in search of employment, and tragically, between three to five dead bodies return daily,” KC said, pointing to the growing human cost of unemployment and migration.

He argued that simply coining new generational labels like “Gen Z” without meaningful action is not enough. “We cannot claim to be addressing their issues merely by renaming a generation. Without concrete solutions, the future of these youths remains in jeopardy,” he added.

KC also raised alarm over the rising mental health and addiction crises among both Generation Z and the succeeding Alpha generation (those born after 2012), noting increasing cases of drug abuse, anxiety, and suicide.

“The government has failed to recognize these problems as urgent national social challenges that demand a movement-like response,” KC asserted. “What we need is a bold, actionable policy framework to ensure a secure and dignified future for our youth.”

The MP called for a nationwide commitment to youth welfare, urging the government to treat these issues not merely as policy topics but as foundational concerns for Nepal’s socio-economic development.
