School bus catches fire in Rupandehi

KATHMANDU: A school bus belonging to Little Flower Higher Secondary School in Suddhodhan Rural Municipality-4, Farsatikar, was completely destroyed after it caught fire on Thursday morning.

Fortunately, all students on board were rescued without injury.

According to eyewitnesses, the bus, bearing registration number Lu 1 Kha 1326, was en route to the school when smoke suddenly began to billow from the engine area as it neared the school gate. Within moments, flames engulfed the vehicle.

“We saw smoke coming out just as the bus approached the gate. Then it caught fire very quickly,” said local resident Manoj Bhandari. “We immediately rushed to help evacuate the children. The police and fire brigade arrived shortly after and brought the fire under control.”

The bus was reportedly packed with students at the time of the incident.

Thanks to the quick response from local residents, security personnel, and firefighters, all students and the driver were safely rescued, according to the District Police Office, Rupandehi.

Authorities are currently conducting a detailed investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
