KATHMANDU: In response to evolving regional security developments, Nepal’s Armed Police Force (APF) has significantly heightened vigilance along the country’s borders, particularly with India, to curb illegal cross-border activities.

As the primary agency responsible for border security, the APF has ramped up joint patrols and intelligence sharing with its Indian counterpart, the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).

Coordinated efforts have been bolstered, with continuous 24-hour patrolling now taking place between Border Outposts (BOPs) to deter unauthorized entry and maintain robust surveillance across sensitive areas.

To reinforce these operations, APF headquarters has issued special directives to all battalion commanders stationed in border regions.

In compliance, battalion headquarters have formulated and implemented strategic security plans. Verification of identity documents and meticulous record-keeping of individuals entering and exiting the border areas are actively being carried out.

Enhanced monitoring and detailed intelligence gathering are also underway, particularly in locations identified as potential hotspots for illegal infiltration.

The APF, in close coordination with Nepal Police, the National Investigation Department, local representatives, and community members, has intensified information exchange to ensure tighter surveillance of cross-border movement.

Despite the increased vigilance, the APF has expressed its commitment to preserving the traditional, long-standing cross-border movements between Nepal and India.

Efforts are being made to facilitate legitimate local travel and prevent unnecessary inconvenience to border communities.

Furthermore, in urban areas deemed critical from a security standpoint, surveillance has been significantly reinforced to preempt any potential threats.
