Minister Lamichhane emphasized that new and emerging technologies are significantly contributing to the holistic development of the nation.

KATHMANDU: Bagmati Province Minister for Internal Affairs and Law, Surajchandra Lamichhane, has stated that the development of technology has played a vital role in promoting good governance and transparency.
Speaking at a program organized to mark Information and Communication Technology Day, Minister Lamichhane emphasized that new and emerging technologies are significantly contributing to the holistic development of the nation.
He highlighted the need for collaboration among the private sector, government, and civil society to advance the development of information and communication by making optimum use of modern technologies.
He also shared that the provincial government is conducting a feasibility study for establishing a data center, which he described as a key infrastructure for building a “Digital Bagmati.”
Minister Lamichhane noted several ongoing initiatives under Digital Bagmati, including the use of telemedicine in healthcare, mandatory implementation of license printing and embossed number plates in transportation, the handover of equipment for driving license verification, and the construction of digital labs for crime control.
He remarked, “To build a Digital Bagmati, the Province Government needs support from the National Planning Commission for a budget that aligns with our goals. Digital transformation is a key responsibility of our ministry, but the lack of adequate funding has created challenges. The private sector and concerned stakeholders must come forward to lead the way.”
The Minister also stressed the importance of gathering input from stakeholders and institutions working in the communication technology sector to successfully implement the Digital Bagmati initiative.
