KATHMANDU: Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has announced that Nepal has established the capability to print all security-related materials within the country—excluding banknotes.

Speaking at a special ceremony held on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the Gorkhapatra Daily on Wednesday, Minister Gurung stated that arrangements have been made for a printing press capable of producing various security documents, including passports, within Nepal.

“We have already set up the printing infrastructure required to produce all security-related materials except currency notes,” he said. “By managing human resources and financial planning, we are progressing in operating the press. There will be no need to go abroad for such printing in the future.”

The minister emphasized that the government has already initiated this effort and that it reflects a significant step towards national self-reliance in sensitive document production.

In addition, Minister Gurung shared that the government has started the process of replacing the old Film Development Board Act with a new one. The proposed act has already been registered and will be implemented soon after its passage.

He also informed that construction is underway for the Film Development Board’s own building, reinforcing the government’s commitment to promoting the film sector.

“Our aim is to develop the film industry as a formal sector that contributes significantly to national revenue,” he added.

Furthermore, Minister Gurung highlighted the important role of Gorkhapatra in safeguarding democratic values and public interests, stressing that a responsible press is essential to uphold the principles of Nepal’s federal democratic republic.
