India launches nationwide civil defence drills amid rising tensions in Kashmir
The Ministry of Home Affairs announced that the drills aim to enhance the country's emergency response capabilities amid growing regional tensions.

KATHMANDU: India has launched an extensive civil defence exercise across 244 districts, following recent military strikes in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir.
The Ministry of Home Affairs announced that the drills aim to enhance the country’s emergency response capabilities amid growing regional tensions.
According to the ministry, the nationwide drills will focus on testing the effectiveness of air raid warning systems, coordination of control rooms, emergency blackouts, and civilian evacuation procedures.
The initiative is designed to prepare citizens, students, and volunteers for possible hostile attacks by training them in essential safety protocols.
A video released by ANI on Tuesday showed civil defence volunteers and local authorities actively participating in mock drills across multiple states. The exercises are part of a broader strategy to improve crisis response infrastructure at the grassroots level.
While the ministry has not directly referenced Pakistan or the recent terrorist attack in Indian-administered Kashmir, the timing and urgency of the drills suggest a strategic response to escalating security threats along the border.
Defence analysts say the initiative is both timely and necessary. “These drills not only build public awareness and confidence but also reinforce the nation’s readiness to deal with emergencies,” said a senior security expert.
With heightened alertness across the region, the Indian government’s proactive civil defence measures are being viewed as a crucial step in strengthening national resilience in the face of evolving threats.
