KATHMANDU: Three Indian civilians were reportedly killed following shelling by the Pakistani army, according to Indian military sources cited by international news agencies Reuters and AFP.

The exchange of fire occurred in the disputed Kashmir region, further straining relations between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

In response, Pakistani military spokesperson Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry told the BBC that seven people, including two children, were killed due to Indian shelling.

He also stated that multiple civilian locations, including a mosque, were targeted in the Indian assault.

Reacting to the attack, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned India’s actions and asserted that Pakistan reserves the right to respond fully to such aggression.

Earlier on Wednesday morning, Indian forces launched an airstrike on nine alleged terrorist hideouts inside Pakistani territory.

According to Indian media outlet Dainik Bhaskar, the operation, named Operation Sindoor, reportedly killed around 30 individuals.

The military operation comes roughly 15 days after 26 people were killed in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
