KATHMANDU: President Ramchandra Paudel has stressed the need to ensure equal access to healthcare and improve the quality of medical services in accordance with the spirit of the Constitution of Nepal.

Speaking at the 23rd anniversary celebration of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS), President Paudel highlighted that the Constitution guarantees fundamental rights such as health and education for all citizens. “It is essential to recognize and act upon the constitutional mandate to ensure equal healthcare access and improve service quality,” he said.

He further noted that the nation’s investment in producing skilled and expert medical professionals is aligned with this constitutional vision.

The President expressed hope that medical professionals would embrace their profession with a spirit of service.

President Paudel welcomed the qualitative progress in Nepal’s medical education and acknowledged the production of skilled professionals within the country as a significant achievement. “There has been notable improvement in healthcare services within Nepal. However, concerns remain about the lack of adequate opportunities for all healthcare professionals,” he remarked, adding that the increasing trend of medical professionals migrating abroad is worrying and must be addressed by relevant stakeholders.

He praised NAMS for delivering quality and specialized services across various communities and regions since its inception, and expressed confidence that the institution would continue expanding its services and promoting innovation and research in the medical field.

President Paudel also acknowledged the role of NAMS as a teaching hospital contributing to medical education and voiced optimism about its future success in producing human resources in emerging areas of medicine.

During the event, Professor Dr. Sudip Kumar Bhattarai was honored, and top-performing students were awarded cash prizes and certificates for academic excellence in various disciplines.
