KATHMANDU: President Ramchandra Paudel has expressed serious concern over the growing trend of Nepali doctors migrating abroad for better opportunities, calling it a matter of national worry.

Addressing the 23rd anniversary celebration of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) in Kathmandu on Tuesday, President Paudel noted that although Nepal has made notable progress in providing quality healthcare, many medical professionals still feel deprived of adequate opportunities at home.

“I have personally experienced that quality health services and treatment facilities are now available in Nepal,” said the President. “Despite improvements in the healthcare sector, complaints persist that skilled manpower lacks sufficient opportunities, leading to an increase in the number of doctors going abroad. This is a serious concern and relevant authorities must take appropriate steps to address it.”

He emphasized that Nepal’s Constitution guarantees fundamental rights such as health and education, and it is the duty of the state to ensure equitable access to healthcare and enhance its quality in line with constitutional values.

President Paudel also highlighted the positive transformation in the health and education sectors of Nepal in recent years.

He expressed happiness that skilled and qualified doctors are now being trained within the country, calling it a significant achievement for the nation.
