Lawmakers raise concerns on education, infrastructure, and social issues

KATHMANDU: In today’s session of the House of Representatives, lawmakers drew the government’s attention to a wide range of national concerns during zero hour, including education, infrastructure, monsoon preparedness, and public welfare.

MP Achyut Mainali urged the government to continue grants provided by the University Grants Commission to underprivileged students. MP Anjani Shrestha called for a clear and fair guideline for fuel fare hikes.

MP Anita Devi strongly objected to the recent arrest of Resham Lal Chaudhary, patron of the Nagarik Unmukti Party, just before the party’s unification with Janamat Party, labeling the act as a case of abduction-style arrest.

MP Amanlal Modi highlighted the insufficient budget allocation for the Ring Road project in Biratnagar and the lack of funds for the construction of embankments on Kesariya and Sinia rivers, which poses a flood risk to the city.

MP Ambar Bahadur Thapa expressed concern over the weak implementation aspect of the government’s education policies, despite positive intentions. MP Dr. Amaresh Kumar Singh emphasized the importance of maintaining balanced diplomatic relations with neighboring countries.

MP Arjun Narsingh KC urged the government to allocate funds for the Balaju–Nuwakot–Kathmandu road, essential for connecting the capital with the Nuwakot district headquarters.

MP Asma Kumari Chaudhary appreciated the Ministry of Home Affairs for initiating preparations ahead of the monsoon season. MP Ishwar Bahadur Rijal called for action against the increasing threat posed by monkey attacks across the country, which have led to significant losses.

MP Ishwari Gharti requested the government to consider the socio-economic and cultural implications of lowering the legal marriage age for girls from 20 to 18. MP Ishwari Devi Neupane highlighted the need to prioritize the construction of the Tikapur ghat.

MP Urmila Majhi called for adequate funding to complete the Tingkar road project in Darchula, Sudurpaschim Province, which has stalled due to budget constraints.

MP Rishikesh Pokharel demanded timely construction of four key bridges in Morang. MP Eknath Dhakal pressed for the implementation of agreements made with teachers in the upcoming fiscal budget.

MP Ganga Karki stressed the need for effective implementation of the national health insurance program and asked for appropriate budgetary support.

MP Chitra Bahadur KC brought attention to Karna Bahadur Shahi of Kalikot, who was injured during the 2062/63 people’s movement, noting that he has yet to receive government support for medical treatment.
