KATHMANDU: A 33-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly verbally abusing a doctor at Udayapur District Hospital on Monday afternoon.

According to police, Devraj Bista, a resident of Chaudandigadhi Municipality–9, was taken into custody after he reportedly stormed into the office of radiologist Dr. Dipesh Yadav and began hurling insults and behaving aggressively.

“I had just returned to my office after a short tea break when the individual entered the room shouting offensive language and acting violently,” Dr. Yadav said.

He further stated that Bista kicked the door open and began shouting, demanding to know why there was a delay in service.

“There were around 20 patients waiting outside, and I was attending to them on time. As soon as I entered the room and called the next patient, he barged in and started abusing me,” added Dr. Yadav.

Following the incident, hospital authorities immediately contacted the police. District Police Office Udayapur’s Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kedar Man Dong confirmed that Bista was arrested from the hospital premises shortly after the report was filed.

In response to the incident, Medical Superintendent of the District Hospital, Dr. Birendra Mandal, submitted a formal complaint to the District Police Office, demanding legal action against Bista for misconduct and verbal abuse of a medical professional.

Authorities have stated that an investigation is underway and appropriate legal measures will be taken.
