KATHMANDU: Janaki Navami, the birth anniversary of Goddess Sita—believed to have emerged from the earth when King Janak ploughed the land during the Treta Yuga—is being celebrated with great enthusiasm in Janakpur on Tuesday.

A week-long series of events has been organized at the famous Janaki Temple to mark the occasion. According to the temple’s head priest (Mahant), Ram Roshan Das, the main celebration will take place throughout the day on Tuesday, featuring religious rituals, devotional music, and cultural displays.

“All preparations for Janaki Navami have been completed,” said Mahant Ram Roshan Das. “Special Aarti, spiritual processions (jhaankis), and various religious programs will take place all day long with devotional chants.”

Renowned Indian spiritual leader Swami Rambhadracharya arrived in Janakpur on Monday to attend the celebrations.

He traveled from India along with dozens of saints and devotees under the Namah Radhavaya campaign.

On the occasion of Janaki Navami, the Madhesh Province government has declared a public holiday across the province.

Religious leaders, including the temple’s Mahant and other saints, have also called for Janaki Navami to be recognized as a national holiday across Nepal.
