Lawmakers raise concerns over Resham Chaudhary’s arrest in house meeting

KATHMANDU: During today’s special session of the House of Representatives, Member of Parliament Abdul Khan demanded an official explanation regarding the arrest of Resham Chaudhary.

He alleged that the arrest was politically motivated, citing the ongoing unification talks between the Nagarik Unmukti Party and the Janamat Party.

MP Ram Prakash Chaudhary called for the formation of a high-level investigation committee to probe the circumstances surrounding Chaudhary’s arrest.

Meanwhile, MP Gangaram Chaudhary stated that the arrest was triggered by a fake letter supposedly from the Supreme Court, which unjustly caused distress to Resham Chaudhary at a time when party unification efforts were progressing on Baisakh 17.

Ranjukumari Jha drew the government’s attention to the need to distribute land ownership certificates to residents of the village block in Saptari.

She also urged the government to increase the budget allocation for the Ramraja Singh Institute of Health Sciences and include it in a multi-sector development plan.

MP Rekha Yadav expressed frustration over the widespread corruption in the country and the lack of action against it. She called for a thorough investigation into the recent white paper released by the Nepal Electricity Authority.

Yadav also voiced dissatisfaction over delays in appointing a new governor for the Nepal Rastra Bank.

MP Prem Suwal raised concerns about rampant corruption and the unchecked influence of middlemen, urging the government to take decisive action.

MP Prabhu Sah criticized the suspension of drinking water services in the squatter settlements of Kathmandu.

He accused authorities of discriminating against squatters, pointing out that while their votes and taxes are accepted, their basic needs are being ignored.

MP Rajendra Bajgain emphasized the economic potential of utilizing Himalayan water and medicinal herbs, suggesting that their export via Indian routes to global markets could bring significant financial benefits to the country.

However, he lamented that bureaucratic inefficiencies have undermined his efforts to promote foreign investment in Nepal.

Finally, MP Dayal Bahadur Shahi stressed the importance of strengthening democratic values and urged the government to create a more conducive environment for effective governance.
