KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Ganesh Parajuli has strongly questioned the government over its failure to arrest and bring back Gorkha Media Network Chair Gitendra Babu (G.B.) Rai, who has been accused of involvement in a massive cooperative fraud case.

Speaking at Monday’s session of the House of Representatives, MP Parajuli expressed his frustration that even after ten months of the current government’s tenure, no action has been taken to detain Rai and repatriate him to Nepal.

“There’s growing public suspicion that the government is deliberately avoiding Rai’s arrest due to fear of implicating political allies and party members involved in the scam,” Parajuli said, hinting at deeper political connections.

He recalled that RSP has consistently raised the issues faced by cooperative victims and had submitted formal suggestions to the government last year to ensure the return of embezzled savings to affected depositors.

“People are asking – when will G.B. Rai be brought to justice?” he added. “Of the Rs 16 billion defrauded, it is said that Rai has admitted to only Rs 7 billion and promised to return it. The public wants to know who is responsible for the remaining Rs 9 billion. Is this why he hasn’t been arrested yet?”

Parajuli called on the government to take decisive legal action against all individuals involved and to ensure that victims’ funds are recovered. He issued a warning that failing to act will further erode public trust in both the cooperative system and the government itself.
