Singh calls for income-generating, eco-friendly housing developments
He stressed that modern urban housing must support livelihoods and enable residents to generate income from within their communities.

KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development, Prakash Man Singh, emphasized the need to develop settlements that are not only residential but also income-generating.
Speaking at the 17th Annual General Meeting of the National Housing Company Limited in Kathmandu on Monday, Singh stated that merely building houses for living is no longer sufficient.
He stressed that modern urban housing must support livelihoods and enable residents to generate income from within their communities.
“People no longer prefer to live in places that are just for shelter,” Singh said, highlighting the importance of creating self-sustaining and economically viable settlements. He added that well-planned housing projects should incorporate basic amenities and opportunities for income generation, making them truly livable and sustainable.
The Deputy Prime Minister also advocated for the use of local resources and eco-friendly construction techniques.
He suggested that replacing traditional building materials like cement and iron with locally available, environmentally friendly alternatives could be beneficial.
Singh concluded by urging developers to integrate essential community infrastructure and income-generating features in future housing projects to ensure holistic and sustainable urban development.
