Lawmakers raise key issues in today’s zero hour session

KATHMANDU: During the Zero Hour of today’s session of the House of Representatives, lawmakers drew attention to a range of pressing national and local issues, calling for immediate government action.
MP Bina Lama demanded the formation of a judicial probe committee to investigate the March 28 incident at Tinkune and called for the immediate release of Rabindra Mishra and others held in custody.
MP Biraj Bhakta Shrestha emphasized the historical and cultural significance of the Palkiyamai Temple in Simraungadh, urging its preservation as a vital symbol of Nepal’s heritage.
MP Shanti Shrestha raised concerns over the poor state of roads, which become muddy during the monsoon and dusty in other seasons. She urged authorities to complete pending roadworks before the rainy season begins. MP Saraswati Bajimaya echoed similar concerns, highlighting the travel risks faced by people in hilly and mountainous regions during monsoon due to incomplete roads.
MP Shiv Nepali demanded zero tolerance for irregularities in national pride projects and called for a judicial investigation into the arrest process of Resham Chaudhary, patron of the Nagarik Unmukti Party.
MP Shishir Khanal voiced concern over unruly behavior, public disturbances, and increasing incidents of robbery targeting passengers in the Gongabu bus park area during the evening and night, urging the Home Ministry to ensure a safe and respectful environment.
MP Shobha Gyawali criticized delays in project completions and the freezing of allocated budgets. She suggested that contractors’ capabilities and intent be thoroughly assessed before awarding contracts.
MP Santosh Chalise proposed that the upcoming budget should focus on connecting farmers to markets and increasing agricultural investment to generate employment within the country.
MP Saraswati Subba demanded that landless Dalits be granted access to housing and agricultural land, and urged the swift tabling of related bills in Parliament.
MP Saraj Ahmad Faruqi highlighted the risk of flooding in Kapilvastu-3 due to river erosion during the monsoon and called on the concerned ministry to take action.
MP Shanti Chaudhary stressed the need for timely distribution of fertilizers to farmers.
MP Sarita Bhusal urged the allocation of funds for the development and conservation of wetland areas, which she said are currently being neglected.
MP Sita Mijar expressed concern over delays in the construction of the Federal Parliament building, warning that such sluggishness could impact the timely completion of other major projects.
