KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chief Whip Gyan Bahadur Shahi has accused the government of serious human rights violations in connection with the Tinkune incident and demanded the formation of a judicial investigation committee.

Speaking at Monday’s session of the House of Representatives, Shahi criticized the government for continuing to detain RPP leader Rabindra Mishra and others for over 40 days, calling the move an act of excessive state suppression.

“The state has crossed all limits of repression. Even after 40 days, Rabindra Mishra and several others remain behind bars,” Shahi stated. “Multiple human rights organizations have already confirmed that the government violated fundamental human rights during the Teen Kune crackdown, yet the state continues to detain them.”

Shahi also expressed outrage over the government’s silence on the killing of Sabin Maharjan, who was allegedly shot in the head in broad daylight. Drawing a sharp comparison, he said, “When a balloon bursts in Pokhara, the government forms a judicial probe committee. But when a youth is killed with a bullet to the head, there is no such move. Why is there no judicial inquiry in this case?”

He demanded the immediate release of all detained RPP leaders and urged the government to uphold justice and democratic values.
