Attraction of guests to Sunakhari community homestay elates entrepreneurs

BIRGUNJ (Parsa): Home stay entrepreneurs here have been elated with the Sunakhari buffer zone community homestay located in Thori Rural Municipality-5, Subarnapur of Parsa district drawing increasing inflow of guests.

The Sunakhari community homestay has received as many as 3,000 guests in the current fiscal year.

Although influx of tourists has not increased in lack of adequate publicity and branding of the first community homestay of the Madhesh province, there has been a significant increase in the flow of tourists this fiscal year.

President of Sunakhari Community Homestay Shambhu Ram Poudel, said that more than 60 film shooters and technicians had stayed in the homestay for three months from November to February of the current fiscal year.

Producer Anup Paudel had shot the film ‘Elephant in the Fog’ based in Nepali and Bhojpuri languages in Shikaribas and surrounding areas of Thori Rural Municipality.

In the last fiscal year, around 1,800 guests had arrived here. The homestay has been operating in 15 houses since 2073 BS.

Located at a distance of 34 kilometers from Birgunj Metropolitan Area, homestay offers a panoramic view of Thori as well as various types of wild animals.

The key attractions of the area are Baghmorcha Mai, monastery (Gumba), Pranami Temple, Martyrs Memorial, Sunakhari Forest among others.

At present, 15 houses are being operated here. There are two rooms in one house. Bhim Bahadur Pakhrin, chair of Sunakhari User Committee, said that they have been facing trouble in taking tourists to different places on public holidays due to white number plate safari vehicle for carrying tourists.

“We went to the Madhes province ministry several times. However, the problem has not been resolved yet. Chief District Officer of Parsa, Ganesh Aryal, has pledged to provide necessary facilitation to solve the problem.

The guests also prefer locally produced corn special dishes, local chicken and corn husks in the homestay here.

The Tamang community has also been showing cultural programmes when guests come to the group.
