KATHMANDU: Stamford Bridge roared to life as Chelsea produced a stunning 3-1 victory over Premier League title-chasers Liverpool, strengthening their push for a Champions League spot.

Enzo Fernández gave the hosts a dream start, firing home in just the third minute.

The Blues doubled their lead in the 56th minute when young Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah inadvertently turned the ball into his own net.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk pulled one back with a powerful header in the 85th minute, giving the Reds a glimmer of hope.

But Chelsea’s rising star Cole Palmer sealed the win deep into stoppage time, calmly converting a penalty in the 96th minute.

The result keeps Chelsea in fifth place on 63 points, three clear of sixth-placed Nottingham Forest, who face Crystal Palace on Monday.

The Blues are now level on points with fourth-placed Newcastle United, whom they will face next week in a crucial clash at St. James’ Park.

Elsewhere, Manchester United’s woes deepened with a dramatic 4-3 defeat to Brentford.

Brighton and Newcastle shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw, as did West Ham and Tottenham in another tightly contested match.

Chelsea’s resurgence under pressure continues to impress, and with the Champions League spots still up for grabs, the race is far from over.
