KATHMANDU: In the second match of Sunday’s IPL double-header, Punjab Kings delivered a dominant performance to defeat Lucknow Super Giants by 37 runs, moving up to second place on the points table with 15 points.
Punjab’s innings was powered by a blistering knock from opener Prabhsimran Singh, who smashed 91 runs off just 48 balls.
Captain Shreyas Iyer added 45 off 25 deliveries, while Shashank Singh’s unbeaten 33 off 15 balls helped Punjab post a massive total of 236/5 in 20 overs.
In reply, Lucknow Super Giants had a shaky start, losing their top three batters for just 27 runs.
Ayush Badoni fought back with a resilient 74 off 40 balls, including five fours and five sixes, while Abdul Samad contributed a quickfire 45 off 24 deliveries.
However, their efforts fell short as Lucknow managed only 199/7 in their 20 overs.
Punjab pacer Arshdeep Singh was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with impressive figures of 3/16 in four overs.
The win bolstered Punjab Kings’ playoff hopes, while Lucknow remained in seventh place with 10 points.
Earlier in the day, Kolkata Knight Riders edged past Rajasthan Royals by a thrilling one-run margin.
Chasing 207, Rajasthan faltered and were restricted to just 205/8 in their 20 overs.
