Elderly woman takes part in Grade 12 exams
A mother of four and grandmother of three, she resumed her education after raising her family.

KATHMANDU: The nationwide Grade 12 annual examinations commenced peacefully today, according to the Chairperson of the National Examination Board (NEB), Mahashram Sharma.
The first day of the exam was conducted from 8 AM to 11 AM without incident.
The examinations, which will run until Jestha 2, are being held at 1,590 exam centers across Nepal and one center in Japan.
Kathmandu has the highest number of centers at 162, while Manang and Mustang districts have only one center each.
A total of 511,525 students have registered for the exams. Among them, 395,908 are regular examinees, comprising 198,875 male and 197,033 female students from 5,202 schools.
An additional 115,617 students are appearing as partial examinees.
According to Exam Controller Krishna Prasad Sharma, Kathmandu has the highest number of examinees at 68,133, whereas Manang has the lowest with only 45 students.
Provisions have also been made for students in prisons and juvenile reform centers to take the exams.
In a heartwarming highlight, 73-year-old Suryawati Khanal appeared for her Grade 12 exams at the Angels’ Heart Secondary School exam center in Manmaiju, Tarkeshwor-10.
A student of Gramin Adarsha Multiple Campus, Tarkeshwor-11, Khanal’s date of birth is listed as 9th Shrawan, 2009 BS on her admit card.
