KATHMANDU: Barcelona mounted a second-half comeback to defeat Real Valladolid 2-1 on Saturday, extending their lead at the top of La Liga to seven points over arch-rivals Real Madrid.

The match at Estadio José Zorrilla saw Valladolid take a shock early lead through Iván Sánchez, who struck in just the 6th minute to stun the league leaders.

However, Barcelona responded strongly in the second half with goals from substitutes Raphinha and Fermín López in the 54th and 60th minutes, respectively, securing all three points.

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick made nine changes to the side that drew 3-3 against Inter Milan in the Champions League semifinal first leg, clearly prioritizing the upcoming second leg in Italy on Tuesday.

Despite the heavy rotation, Barcelona showcased their depth and resilience, extending their unbeaten run in La Liga to 15 matches, including 13 wins.

Their dominance over Valladolid also continued, having now won 17 of their last 19 encounters.

With 79 points from 34 matches, Barcelona tightened their grip on the league title race.

Real Madrid, with a game in hand, will look to close the gap when they face Celta Vigo later today.
