Gujarat Titans beat Hyderabad by 38 runs, climb to 2nd spot

KATHMANDU: Gujarat Titans secured a crucial 38-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in today’s Indian Premier League (IPL) match, propelling themselves to second place on the points table with 14 points.

Playing at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss and opted to field first.

Gujarat made full use of the opportunity, posting a formidable total of 224 runs for the loss of six wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

Openers Sai Sudharsan and captain Shubman Gill laid a strong foundation with an 87-run stand for the first wicket.

Gujarat had a blistering start, scoring 82 runs in the powerplay. Sudharsan scored 48 runs off 23 balls, hitting nine boundaries before being dismissed.

Gill continued the momentum with Jos Buttler, adding 62 runs for the second wicket. Gill played a captain’s knock, smashing 76 runs off just 38 deliveries, including 10 fours and 2 sixes, before being run out.

Buttler also brought up his half-century, scoring 64 runs from 37 balls.

Washington Sundar contributed a useful 21 runs. Jaydev Unadkat impressed with the ball, taking three wickets in the final over, while Pat Cummins and Zeeshan Ansari claimed one wicket each.

Chasing a massive target of 225, Sunrisers Hyderabad could only manage 186 runs for six wickets in their 20 overs.

Abhishek Sharma was the standout performer with the bat, scoring a quickfire 74 off 41 balls, including six sixes and four boundaries.

However, the rest of the batting lineup couldn’t provide enough support.

Travis Head scored 20 runs, Heinrich Klaasen made 23, Nitish Kumar Reddy added 21, while Pat Cummins and Ishan Kishan contributed 19 and 13 respectively.

For Gujarat, Mohammad Siraj and Prasidh Krishna took two wickets each, while Ishant Sharma and Gerald Coetzee grabbed one apiece.

With this win, Gujarat now sit in second place on the IPL table with 14 points. Sunrisers Hyderabad, on the other hand, remain in ninth place with just 6 points.
