KATHMANDU: The government has announced plans to transform the Tribhuvan University (TU) Cricket Ground into an international-standard cricket stadium.

The announcement was made during the presentation of the policy and program for the upcoming fiscal year 2082/83 at a joint session of the Federal Parliament.

Delivering the address on behalf of the government, President Ramchandra Paudel stated that the initiative reflects a broader commitment to enhancing sports infrastructure across the country. “Legal provisions will be introduced to ensure active participation of all three tiers of government—federal, provincial, and local—as well as the private sector in the development of stadiums and other sports facilities,” he said.

The President emphasized the integration of sports development with corporate social responsibility, encouraging private institutions to contribute to national sports initiatives.

In a move to support athletes who bring international recognition to the country, the government also plans to offer scholarships for medal-winning athletes and their children to pursue higher education.
