KATHMANDU: The Government has unveiled its commitment to foster a culture of labor and promote respect for all forms of work, as part of its policy and programs for the upcoming fiscal year 2082/83.

In a joint session of the Federal Parliament on Friday, President Ram Chandra Paudel presented the government’s annual policy and program, highlighting several key initiatives aimed at strengthening the domestic labor market and creating employment opportunities within the country.

A major component of the announcement was the implementation of a work-hour-based wage system that will also include interns, particularly in startup ventures.

The government aims to integrate youth into entrepreneurial ecosystems while ensuring fair compensation.

To enforce fundamental labor standards, the President said labor audits would be conducted to ensure compliance and accountability among employers.

Recognizing the ongoing challenge of skilled workforce migration, the government pledged to revive and expand past labor incentive programs to retain talent within the country.

President Paudel declared the upcoming decade as the “Decade of Domestic Employment,” underscoring plans to generate jobs within Nepal through both wage-based and self-employment initiatives. The strategy also includes promoting entrepreneurship to empower youth and drive economic growth from within.
