Government to develop major highways as green economic corridors

KATHMANDU: The government has announced plans to transform several national highways into green economic corridors based on sustainable business practices.

Presenting the government’s policies and programs for the upcoming fiscal year 2082/83 at a joint session of the Federal Parliament on Friday, President Ram Chandra Paudel said that the Pushpalal Mid-Hill Highway, BP Highway, Madan Bhandari Highway, and various strategic corridors will be developed as eco-friendly economic routes.

The President also stated that the National Integrated Agriculture Modernization Program will be continued, with a restructuring of the existing Agricultural Modernization Project. This move aims to enhance productivity and sustainability in the agricultural sector.

Emphasizing the importance of soil health, the government plans to encourage the production and use of organic fertilizers to maintain soil’s biological quality. Special programs will be launched to promote sustainable agricultural production, he added.
