KATHMANDU: Mahiman Singh Bista, a section officer at the Supreme Court of Nepal, is set to have his detention extended on three separate criminal charges after allegedly forging an official letter that led to the arrest of Nagarik Unmukti Party’s patron, Resham Chaudhary.

Bista reportedly misused the Supreme Court’s official letterhead to issue an unauthorized letter instructing police to arrest Chaudhary.

Acting on that forged document, law enforcement authorities detained Chaudhary and sent him to prison.

According to police sources, preparations are underway to file a request for an extension of Bista’s detention under three charges stipulated in the Criminal Code of Nepal: Section 84 (Forgery), Section 86 (Using a Forged Document), and Section 276 (Abuse of Authority).

The District Government Attorney’s Office is preparing the necessary documentation to present the case and support the extension of custody.
