KATHMANDU: Minister of Health and Population Pradeep Paudel has issued a stern warning to private medical colleges that fail to provide residential doctors with allowances equivalent to those of eighth-level government health workers.

He stated that such institutions will be denied any form of support or facilities from the Ministry of Health.

Speaking at a press conference organized at the Ministry on Friday in coordination with the Nepal Medical Association to address doctors’ concerns, Minister Paudel emphasized the government’s commitment to implementing the decision made by the Medical Education Commission.

He said the Commission, during its meeting on Magh 25, had decided that residential doctors must receive a subsistence allowance equivalent to the eighth-level employees under the Ministry of Health and Population. “This decision must be implemented without exception,” Paudel declared.

He further warned that if private colleges refuse to comply, they could face severe consequences, including the cancellation of their affiliations and the severance of all ties with the state.

The Minister also expressed the Ministry’s willingness to ensure a fair working environment for residential doctors, including the provision of official holidays, bereavement leave, and limiting their weekly working hours to 72.

Reaffirming the government’s stance, Paudel said, “The Ministry will fully implement the decision of the Medical Education Commission and issue clear instructions to all concerned bodies for its immediate enforcement.”
