KATHMANDU: A Nepali student studying at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Odisha, India, was found dead under unclear circumstances in her hostel room on Thursday evening, sending shockwaves through her family and community in Nepal.

Prisa Sah, a native of Ward No. 8, Kabilasi Municipality in Sarlahi district, had traveled to India last year to pursue higher education at KIIT.

She was discovered lifeless in her room on the fourth floor of the university’s Queens’ Castle–4 (QC–4) hostel.

The university has since informed the Nepalese Embassy in India, and local police have taken control of the scene for investigation.

According to her uncle, Kamaldev Prasad Sah, Prisa had recently completed her examinations and was preparing to return to Nepal on May 18. Just a day before her death, she had spoken with her parents over the phone, giving no indication of distress.

Her father Shyam Prasad Sah, mother Pinky Sah, and brother Gaurav have since traveled to Odisha to understand the circumstances and complete formalities for repatriating her body to Nepal.

Currently, Prisa’s home in Kabilasi remains locked, and her family is devastated by the sudden tragedy.

This incident follows a similar case earlier this year.

On Falgun 4, another Nepali student, Prakriti Lamsal from Rupandehi, was also found dead in the same hostel complex, raising concerns about student safety and wellbeing.

Further investigation is underway, and the Nepalese Embassy is coordinating with Indian authorities to ensure proper procedures are followed.
