KATHMANDU: Community schools across Nepal resumed operations on Friday after a 29-day-long protest led by the Nepal Teachers’ Federation was officially called off.

The teachers had launched the nationwide strike on Chaith 20, demanding reforms and better facilities.

The protest had brought all academic activities — including teaching, student enrollment, and school administration — in community schools to a halt.

The strike ended following a nine-point agreement reached between the agitating teachers’ body and the government on Baisakh 17.

Despite schools reopening, student attendance remained low on the first day, though some schools have already resumed both regular classes and enrollment campaigns.

Meanwhile, the Nepal School Staff Council has expressed dissatisfaction with the agreement.

In a statement issued on Baisakh 18, the Council’s national committee warned of renewed protests, stating that their demands were excluded from the deal and rejecting both the agreement and the decision to end the strike.
