Flood washes away diversion in Nawalpur

KATHMANDU: The East-West Highway at Dumkibas in Nawalpur district has been completely blocked since early this morning after floodwaters from the Binayi River swept away a temporary diversion.

The disruption has brought traffic along the vital Narayanghat-Butwal road section to a standstill.

According to Madhav Nepal, the spokesperson for the District Police Office, Nawalpur, the diversion had been constructed as an alternative route after a bridge under construction over the Binayi River collapsed.

However, heavy flooding destroyed the diversion, leaving heavy and cargo vehicles stranded around Hongsi Gate and Arun Khola.

Passenger and smaller vehicles are being rerouted through alternative roads to reach their destinations.

Authorities have stated that it will take some time before the road can be fully restored.

The blockage of this major highway has caused significant inconvenience for travelers and drivers.
