Pedestrian killed in truck hit

KATHMANDU: A pedestrian was killed early Friday morning after being struck by a truck on the East-West Highway in Manahari Rural Municipality-8, Makwanpur district.

According to the District Police Office, Makwanpur, the accident occurred at approximately 5:15 AM when a truck (registration number Na. 5 Kha 7712), en route from Hetauda to Chitwan, hit a pedestrian who was crossing the road.

The victim has been identified as Ganga Bahadur Syangtang, a 70-year-old resident of Raksirang Rural Municipality-9, who was currently living in Manahari-8.

Police confirmed that he died on the spot due to the impact.

Following the accident, police detained the truck driver, identified as 40-year-old Pramod Mahato of Hariyon Municipality-11, Sarlahi. Authorities say a detailed investigation into the incident is underway.

The accident briefly disrupted traffic along the highway, but vehicular movement resumed shortly after thanks to the swift efforts of traffic police, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Shyamu Aryal, spokesperson for the Makwanpur District Police.
