KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called on all sectors of society to unite in the nation’s journey toward prosperity, declaring the upcoming decade as the “Decade for Promoting Internal Prosperity” in Nepal.

Speaking at a special ceremony marking the 136th International Labour Day, where the government also launched the new “Shram Sansar” portal, PM Oli emphasized the importance of inclusive participation, strategic planning, and digital innovation to achieve national goals.

“The government is preparing a strategic action plan to make the next decade a transformative era of internal development,” Oli stated. “We urge all communities, sectors, and institutions to take part in this journey toward a prosperous Nepal.”

Highlighting the significance of Labour Day, PM Oli extended best wishes to Nepali workers at home and abroad. He encouraged the development of a culture that respects labour and supports Nepal’s vision of socialism-oriented prosperity.

Oli underlined that the government is advancing its efforts to establish a Labour Market Information System, enabling policy-making based on accurate data. “Challenges in digital infrastructure remain, but we are committed to overcoming them,” he said.

Referring to the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) 2025 slogan, ‘Safety and Health of Workers, Digitalization and the Future of Work’, Oli said these themes are highly relevant for Nepal.

He also noted the importance of adopting emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to ensure worker safety and boost productivity.

“Digital technology plays a key role in building a knowledge-based society and digital economy,” Oli said. “It is essential for delivering public services efficiently and achieving our national vision of ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali.’”

The newly launched Shram Sansar portal is envisioned as an integrated platform to streamline labour and employment services. It will facilitate demand-supply analysis, regulate employment agencies, promote equitable access, and decentralize employment benefits to the grassroots level.

“This system will act as a bridge between job seekers, employers, and training providers,” Oli explained. “It will also support the monitoring and evaluation of national human resource development.”

He emphasized the importance of ensuring job opportunities reach every citizen and addressing challenges in foreign employment. The government, he added, will provide concessional loans to promote skill development and entrepreneurship.

The Prime Minister praised the Shram Sansar portal as a significant step in decentralizing labour services and pledged to integrate it into the national Nagarik (citizen) app for broader accessibility.

“A prosperous Nepal is possible when skilled human resources are connected with employment,” he said. “A happy Nepali society becomes a reality when workers’ welfare and women’s empowerment are ensured.”

Oli concluded by calling for committed partnerships among federal, provincial, and local governments, civil society, the private sector, and non-governmental organizations to establish a digital governance model and promote sustainable employment.
