KATHMANDU: Minister for Drinking Water, Pradeep Yadav, stated that access to clean drinking water is no longer just a dream for the Nepali people but a practical right.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Nangedanda Comprehensive Pumping Drinking Water Project in Wards 5 and 6 of Sunkoshi Rural Municipality, Sindhuli, he emphasized the government’s long-term vision to ensure safe drinking water access across Nepal—from remote villages to urban centers—under the national campaign “Clean Water, Healthy Life.”
Minister Yadav remarked that the success of the Nangedanda project is a result of active collaboration among the federal government, local authorities, and local communities, demonstrating the government’s commitment to prioritizing citizens’ needs in every step of development.
According to Engineer Ram Kumar Shrestha, Director General of the Department of Water Supply and Sewerage Management, the project agreement was signed on 2079 Asar 9 B.S. and is targeted for completion by 2082 Asar 8 B.S..
He noted that after project revisions, the total estimated cost has reached Rs 379.49 million.
The project is expected to contribute significantly to public health, hygiene, and prosperity in the region.
Project Chief Engineer Herakaji Maharjan shared that the initiative will directly benefit 2,535 households, with the aim of providing each family access to clean and safe drinking water.
The event was also attended by Member of Parliament from Sindhuli Constituency-2 Lekenath Dahal, Rural Municipality Chairperson Deepa Bohora Dahal, Vice Chairperson Kapil Kumar Koirala, and other officials, who expressed confidence that the project would resolve the region’s long-standing drinking water issues.
Secretary of the Ministry of Drinking Water, Pramiladevi Shakya Bajracharya, reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to delivering modern, accessible, and citizen-friendly drinking water services in the future.
Ward Chairpersons Surat Kumar Basyal (Sunkoshi-5) and Mahendra Bahadur Thapa (Sunkoshi-6), alongside representatives from various political parties and local residents, were also present at the ceremony.
