KATHMANDU: Dr. Bobby Singh Yadav, a central leader of the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal, is currently under investigation after a video of her dancing and allegedly firing a pistol at a wedding ceremony went viral on social media.

The Sarlahi District Police have since recovered the object believed to have been used in the incident, while Saptari District Police are taking statements from Yadav.

Responding to the controversy, Dr. Yadav has claimed that she did not fire a real firearm. In a public statement shared via social media, she clarified that the item in question was a toy gun known as a “Ranger Toy.” She stated that she used it during a dance performance at her cousin’s pre-wedding Haldi ceremony in Sitamarhi, a border town in India, at the request of her family.

She appealed to the public not to exaggerate the incident, saying: “During my cousin’s wedding celebration held in the courtyard of a private residence in Sitamarhi, I danced with my brothers and sisters using what was clearly a toy gun. I sincerely request everyone not to sensationalize the playful use of a ‘Ranger Toy’ during a family gathering.”

She also expressed concern that the video, captured during a private family moment, was shared widely without context or consent.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Dhakendra Khatiwada of Saptari confirmed that an investigation has begun in response to the viral video.

He stated that a pistol-like device was recovered from Sarlahi and will be sent to a forensic science laboratory for testing. According to him, further investigation will now proceed under the jurisdiction of the Sarlahi police.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Saroj Rai of Sarlahi further informed that the object was recovered from a house in Malangwa Municipality-2.

He confirmed that the incident occurred during the Haldi ceremony of Komal Supriya on April 24.

The object, suspected to be the same one seen in the video, will also be sent to a forensic lab for detailed analysis.

The case remains under active investigation.
