KATHMANDU: A massive fire broke out on Thursday in Rajahwa, Sunwal-2, destroying a sugarcane crop planted over 10 katthas of land.

The fire originated from a nearby field where local resident Shyambahadur Bhandari was burning grass.

Due to strong winds, the flames spread rapidly to the adjacent field belonging to Pralad Pasi, according to Inspector Santosh Paudel of the Area Police Office, Sunwal.

Efforts to extinguish the fire were hampered by scorching heat and gusty winds.

The municipality of Sunwal lacks its own fire engine, so the fire was finally brought under control with the help of a fire truck from Ramgram Municipality, police personnel, and local residents.

No casualties were reported, but the incident has caused significant agricultural loss.
