Message of former President Bhandari, Chair Nepal on Labour Day
She stressed the need of ensuring rights including minimum wages, social security and safe working place as most of the Nepali workers are in the informal sector.

KATHMANDU: Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has said the contribution of workers is significant in country’s social, economic and physical development.
In a message of best wishes on the occasion of the Labour Day, she stressed the need of ensuring rights including minimum wages, social security and safe working place as most of the Nepali workers are in the informal sector.
Taking to the social networking site X, the former President writes – “Though contribution of Nepali migrant workers is the backbone of the economy, they are exploited and at risk. Lack of employment and brain drain of young generation has become the matter of concern while women and domestic workers are still neglected.”
Former President Bhandari pointed out that government, employers and trade unions should carry out coordinative efforts for protection of rights of labourers and implementation of laws related to labour as well as to guarantee dignified labour, proper wages and social security.
Similarly, Chairperson of the CPN (Unified Socialist) and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, laid emphasis on the need of guaranteeing rights of workers for country’s prosperity.
In a message of best wishes on May Day, Chair Nepal stressed that the government should be sensitive for the welfare and rights of workers, who are playing significant role for entire social and economic prosperity of the nation.
