Inter Miami crashes out of CONCACAF Champions Cup after 5-1 aggregate loss

KATHMANDU: Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami suffered a crushing exit from the CONCACAF Champions Cup after being defeated 3-1 by the Vancouver Whitecaps in the second leg of the semifinals on Wednesday night.
With a 2-0 loss in the first leg, the Major League Soccer side crashed out with an aggregate score of 5-1.
Despite an early goal from Spanish defender Jordi Alba that momentarily reignited Miami’s hopes, the Whitecaps responded with a commanding performance led by midfielder Sebastian Berhalter.
Berhalter scored one goal and provided two assists, guiding Vancouver to a historic victory and their place in the tournament final.
Inter Miami, captained by Argentine legend Lionel Messi, entered the second leg under pressure after their first-leg defeat.
Alba’s opening strike seemed to set the tone for a potential comeback, but Vancouver quickly regained control, showcasing sharp passing, disciplined defending, and clinical finishing.
Vancouver will now await the winner of the second semifinal between Mexican giants Cruz Azul and Tigres. The final is scheduled for June 1.
