KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has strongly asserted that the monarchy in Nepal is a matter of the past and will not return, emphasizing that the current democratic republic was achieved through the people’s struggle.

Speaking at the inauguration of the 9th National Convention of the National People’s Cultural Federation of Nepal today, Prime Minister Oli—who also serves as the Chair of the CPN-UML—criticized those who oppose the current system and long for the return of monarchy, saying such desires are outdated and disconnected from the aspirations of the people.

“Some people still dream of becoming subjects again, even when the republic has already arrived,” Oli said. “They see only negativity in this system and try to undermine it. But just as the forest doesn’t tremble because of a few jackals howling at night, the nation will not be shaken by those voices. Anyone dreaming of a king’s return is merely chasing illusions.”

He called on cultural workers, artists, and creators to take a leading role in countering such regressive tendencies through creative expression. “We must beat the cultural drums loudly against such backward thinking,” he urged. “This is a collective responsibility.”

Highlighting the importance of art and culture in nation-building, PM Oli emphasized the need for the production of inspiring and patriotic films and plays that reflect Nepal’s rich cultural, linguistic, and artistic diversity.

He assured that audiences would not shy away from watching content that promotes national unity, peace, and prosperity.
