KATHMANDU: Janamat Party President Dr. CK Raut has strongly condemned what he described as ongoing injustice and suppression against indigenous communities, Dalits, Madhesis, Muslims, and other marginalized groups in Nepal.

Speaking outside Dillibazar Prison on Wednesday after visiting Resham Chaudhary, patron of the Nagarik Unmukti Party who was arrested earlier in the day, Dr. Raut called the arrest “undemocratic” and an assault on civil liberties.

“It is as if we have no right to speak or demand our rights,” Raut said. “This kind of behavior must be defeated, and we are determined to do so through political unity.”

Chaudhary was taken into custody just before a scheduled unification program between the Janamat Party and the Nagarik Unmukti Party at the Nepal Academy (Pragya Bhawan) in Kathmandu.

The arrest sparked immediate backlash, with leaders and supporters of both parties labeling it a deliberate move to derail the unification process.

Despite the setback, Dr. Raut emphasized the commitment of both parties to move forward with unification efforts, calling it essential for the fight against state oppression and for ensuring the representation of marginalized voices.

Chaudhary is currently being held at Dillibazar Prison.
