KATHMANDU: Police have apprehended a young woman in possession of counterfeit currency in Biratnagar Metropolitan City Ward No. 13.

The suspect has been identified as 19-year-old Simpi Baisanti, a resident of Araria district in Bihar, India.

Baisanti was detained while attempting to purchase goods at a local grocery store using a fake 500-rupee Indian banknote.

The shopkeeper, suspecting the note to be counterfeit, promptly alerted the police.

A team from the Rani Area Police Office responded immediately and conducted a search, during which officers recovered seven fake Indian currency notes of 500-rupee denomination, along with Rs 3,100 in cash.

Police have confirmed that further legal action is underway in connection with the case.
