KATHMANDU: Spokesperson of the Nagarik Unmukti Party, Sharad Singh Yadav, has accused the government of intentionally arresting the party’s patron, Resham Chaudhary, to prevent unification between identity-based political forces.

Speaking to the media after Chaudhary was arrested by police on Wednesday at the Nepal Academy in Kathmandu, Yadav claimed that the authorities have not provided any reason for the arrest.

Yadav alleged that certain forces are trying to derail the ongoing unification process among like-minded parties.

He stated that the unification process has currently been halted, but talks with the Janamat Party will continue to move the process forward.

Abdul Khan, Vice-Chair of the Janamat Party, echoed the concern, stating that the arrest was a political setback aimed at disrupting the growing unity among the Madhesi, Tharu, and Muslim communities. He criticized the government’s move as a blow to the Madhesi community.

Khan added that the final decision on party unification will be made within a few days and alleged that those in power are conspiring to prevent unity among marginalized groups through divisive politics.
