Resham Chaudhary sent to Dillibazar prison after arrest
Chaudhary was convicted with a life sentence in connection with the Tikapur incident that occurred in Bhadra 2072.

KATHMANDU: Resham Chaudhary, patron of the Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP), has been sent back to Dillibazar Prison after being arrested from the premises of Pragya Bhawan by plainclothes security personnel.
Chaudhary, who was previously convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for his involvement in the 2015 Tikapur incident (Bhadra, 2072 BS), had been released on Jestha 15, 2080 BS, under a general amnesty granted by the government on the occasion of Republic Day.
However, following a recent Supreme Court verdict that overturned the amnesty, police have taken him back into custody.
According to Kathmandu Police spokesperson SP Apilraj Bohora, the arrest was carried out to implement the Supreme Court’s order.
Chaudhary was transferred to Dillibazar Prison shortly after his detention.
The arrest comes just hours before the planned unification announcement between the Nagarik Unmukti Party and Janamat Party, led by Dr. CK Raut.
The event, which was scheduled to be held at Pragya Pratishthan with party leaders and cadres from across the country in attendance, has now been postponed.
Speaking to the press, Janamat Party Chairperson Dr. CK Raut said, “We strongly condemn the arrest of Reshamji. Due to this incident, we have postponed the unification announcement. All leaders and cadres are requested to return home. We will convene a meeting and issue a new notice soon.”
Following the arrest, party supporters at the venue chanted slogans in protest, but the situation remained under control.
The Supreme Court’s recent decision also impacts a similar case involving Yog Prasad Dhakal, alias Rigal.
The full bench of the Court issued a mandamus order to revoke the presidential amnesty granted to Dhakal by President Ram Chandra Paudel, instructing authorities to re-arrest and imprison him immediately.
